COLLEEN DAVIE JANES

Colleen is a multi-award-winning feature film & TV director with a recent placement as a Semi-Finalist in Shondaland’s SeriesFest director contest. She is a graduate of Boston University with a BS in Communications/Film.

Her style leans towards fast-paced, seriocomic dramas focused on relationships and family, often with complicated women at their centers. Her comedic eye stems from her background as one of seven kids, with a pro-wrestling father and grandfather.

She is an actor's director as a conservatory-trained actor in Meisner, Strasberg and other Method techniques and overlapped her acting work with Stand-up comedy, performing in over 20 venues internationally.

However, her style is versatile based on story, and her work spans thriller to Rom-com. Her features can be seen on the Passionflix platform as well as Lifetime. Colleen directed: a romance comedy feature film Seduction & Snacks, an independent comedy pilot How Am I Doing and a thriller feature film that will air on Lifetime, for Johnson Production Group.

As a musician, her work is driven by strong sound design and music composition. Her most recent pilot project was an official selection of the Oscar® qualifying Holly Shorts Film Festival, and she worked on the Oscar short-listed feature documentary/Sundance Grand Jury nom "Quest for Honor" in Iraq.

Colleen began her career in film as a Production Assistant in features. She later became a sought-after Production Coordinator in commercials, music videos and features, working with such directors as: Oliver Stone, Brian DePalma, Robert DeNiro, Hype Williams, John Bayer, Jonus Ackerlund and M. Knight Shyamalan. In between coordinating positions, Colleen directed and produced her own commercial spots: Edge Auto Rentals, Chelsea Guitars Series (DiMassimo NY).

A recent recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts artist's grant "Anonymous Was a Woman", Colleen is a member of the Alliance of Women Directors, Film Fatales Organization, and was honored by SHOOT Magazine at the DGA as a "New Director to Watch". Colleen's debut screenplay "The Family Remains" was a semi-finalist in the Page International Screenplay Contest.
