JEENA BLOOM

(Screenwriter)

Jeena Bloom is a half-Asian, bi, trans woman, born in Tacoma, Washington but has managed to live in just about every region of the US: a childhood in Indiana, high school in Florida, college in Chicago, time spent in Tennessee, transitioning to a woman in New York City before finally settling in Los Angeles. Living just about everywhere in the lower 48 has given her an ear for the diverse voices all over the country.

Jeena has spent much of the last few years as a standup comedian, racking up festival wins in Harlem, performing an hour long show in Edinburgh and appearing in New York Magazine. She has previously worked as a model for Rolling Stone photographer Mark Seliger.

As a writer, she has been developing numerous projects for film and television, including The Blackburn Files and her feature project True Love Waits. Jeena, in her pre-transition life, wrote and produced two indie features, including Andre the Butcher (which premiered on Starz).

Jeena studied at The Columbia College in Chicago before finishing her film degree back in Florida. It was there she studied Film and Photography and won the University of South Florida's screenwriting contest in her senior year. She finally hustled her way into making indie films in Florida and LA but couldn't fully enjoy it. Not until she stopped and made the change needed most: to live as a woman.

Of course, it didn't really work out that way. Jeena wouldn't transition until finally moving to New York in 2015. It was there she found a new love: performing live comedy. Spending years in the NYC indie and comedy club scene, she rediscovered her voice and her love of motion pictures and finally settled in Los Angeles for good.

When not writing or performing, Jeena is an LA girl through and through: walking her little dog in the park, drinking 20 dollar smoothies at Erewhon and hitting the beach at Malibu. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, she's a passionate advocate for trans rights and for victims of intimate partner abuse (of which she is also a survivor). It's taken Jeena a long time and a lot of traveling to finally get to the point where she's developed her voice just as she always wanted it to be. Her writing style brings a queer sensibility to genre content and now she's ready to be heard.
